Just 4 days to go! Lots of fun action for all this year at a more affordable value than ever.
Don’t forget to invite your friends for some great entertainment and delicious food and drink you can only get at the Altamont Fair!
The wonder of going to the Altamont Fair for me is that I will have a good time but never quite know in advance what it is that will be special. I am looking forward to the aerial thrill show but sometimes it is the people watching that makes me smile. I love waiting for the calf to be born at the Miracle of Birth but I can always take a break and check out the Farm Machinery Building and see how people figured out ways to make their work easier and more efficient. When I am ready for technology, there is the excitement of Battle of the Teen Bands or the street rods of Cars: Past, Present & Future.
I can relax to the music in the Grove while I am enjoying Fair Food. I can watch the parade from Backyard Circus to the Grandstand with gigantic puppets. I can watch sheep and try and figure out from the stands why one is better than another. I can watch the Governor’s chef prepare something delicious from locally grown foods. The Flower building houses masterpieces from local artists, the photography section is getting very big and very competitive.
The 1890’s building is getting a facelift of activities this year: lots of local music, a lumberjack show, wood workers and wood carver, needlearts demonstrations—lots of hustle and bustle.
Did you know there was going to be a hay maze for kids in the Ag Building?
That chicks hatch from eggs there? There is a circus museum with models and memorabilia from early twentieth century? Have you seen the quilts and painting in the Arts & Crafts Building? This year I am going to learn how to attempt those crafts. The Sheep Barn has a whole section dedicated to wool products and demonstrations.
The Hometown Heroes in Action building has puppet shows on fire safety and public safety, NYS Police Dive tank, and a brand new Hogan’s Alley feature by the Guilderland Police. There is always action down there.
I might skip the reptiles over in the Conservation Area but I probably won’t be able to resist being fascinated and repelled by those scaly beasts. I am going to check out the birds like the owls and hawks though.
And maybe the monkeys…but a pig show….I don’t know….
Since my admission ticket now includes a ride wristband, I know I will be on the carousel and maybe the ferris wheel. Haven’t tried the fun house in years so maybe 2010 is my year. There are lots of other rides but spinning and whirling and turning upside down I might leave for you to enjoy.
Come on out and enjoy the Altamont Fair August 17-22. Take lots of pictures and send them in to Flash Shots and you may see yourself in 2011!
There is more to it than a single day, so come several days.
I forgot to mention HORSES and PONIES. There will be some kind of equine show every day of the fair from Draft Horses with show wagons to draft horses pulling stone boats to costumed ponies, to a brand new one day Open Horse show on Saturday.
