Fair Board votes to cancel the 2020 Altamont Fair
From the Board of Directors of Albany, Schenectady, Greene County Agricultural & Historical Societies, Inc.:
Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation and its impact on our community’s health and well-being, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Altamont Fair. Now and always, the health and safety of our guests, participants, volunteers, staff and community is our highest priority.
“Although we held off making this difficult decision as long as we could, we knew that despite our best efforts to create a safe path to host the Altamont Fair, it is clear we must cancel for this year to do our part to minimize the spread of COVID-19.“said Kathleen Stanton, Board President.
We know the impact of the Altamont Fair cancelation will be felt far beyond our own personal disappointments.
We are heartbroken for the small businesses, family farms, 4-H clubs, competitors and exhibitors, entertainers, vendors and carnival that rely on the Altamont Fair. We will take this next year to prepare for the next Altamont Fair scheduled for August 17-22, 2021.
As we all learn to navigate this new landscape, we look forward to brighter, better days ahead when we can gather again to celebrate all that is agriculture and history in the Capital Region.
Please stay safe, be well and support each other. We will miss you.
Congratulations to all the participants of the #PorterChallenge!
