Blending Veterans - a tribute
Amy Anderson, fair manager, describes plans for a special tribute to veterans. “On Wednesday, August 16th, we are inviting veterans from all the eras to participate in “Blending the Veterans” created by Cindy Pollard. A meet and greet with veterans will be held in the Dutch Barn after the 2pm ceremony. There, you can meet with veterans from WWII as well as other wars. The Fair is partnering with the American Legion Post #977 to show the colors and escort our honored guests.
Amy goes on to say “New this year, we are having the "Nerger’s Tigers” featuring rare white tigers. We also have “World of Wonders” that features a sword swallower, fire eater, and some wonderful old time jokes! We are looking forward to "Dynamo Dogs" for the first time too! Returning is Michael DeSchalit , Master Hypnotist, who will also perform with his show “Magically Speaking”. And of course we have the wonderful Circus Hollywood and the racing pigs!
Amy continues, “We have expanded our Ag Awareness Trail and Hands on Farming exhibit designed to educate and entertain. The Baby Animal exhibit is returning to give our smaller patrons an opportunity to see the little ones up close. Clayhaven Farms Belgians are returning to stay all week” says Anderson. “In addition, we will have a full schedule of livestock shows – sheep, goats, rabbits, poultry, and dairy and beef cattle. Plus we have a full week of pony and horse shows”.

We are celebrating 125 years since the first meeting of the Fair committee!
On August 6, 1892 a public meeting was held in Altamont. During this meeting a committee was formed and tasked with investigating the possibility of hosting an annual fair in the town of Altamont.
We are planning some very special exhibits to share our history - stay tuned!
The Altamont Fair is a three county fair representing Albany, Schenectady, and Greene Counties. It is a non-profit, public educational, and historical society supported entirely by admissions, rentals, contributions, sponsorships and the assistance of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
